Previously an aging German restaurant, the Bavarian Inn has revitalized into a modern hub for locals and travelers alike while maintaining their European roots. The result is a resort that is a powerful blend of modern and historic, providing an atmosphere that everyone can enjoy. The Bavarian Inn also honors its place in Appalachia by sourcing local ingredients and cooking traditions.
Whether you’re on the lookout for a getaway trip, want a nice meal to share with friends or family, or are visiting someone who is attending Shepherd University and seeking a convenient spot to stay, the Bavarian Inn won’t disappoint!
Accommodations at the Bavarian Inn
The proximity to the Potomac River is one of the major calling cards to staying at the Bavarian Inn. The resort offers gorgeous scenic views from the balcony of your room as well as along several common areas with conversationally-oriented spaces such as terraces, fire pits, and the pool.
The infinity pool in particular is a favorite among guests, providing them with a gorgeous view of the Potomac River and the surrounding landscape, creating a sense of appreciation of nature offered by the Blue Ridge region.
For those who are looking to travel into town, the hotel offers a bike rental service – or you could get there via a short drive or walk to explore what Shepherdstown has to offer. Founded in 1864, the town of Shepherdstown serves as a monument to a bygone era and offers plenty to do with its eccentric shops, restaurants, and more!
The great location combined with the historic ambiance transports you back in time, making this an amazing place to stay for a family retreat, birthday celebration, anniversary, or get-together. Plus, the resort is a popular spot for weddings with everything you need to throw an amazing celebration on-site.

Food at the Bavarian Inn
Another major draw of the Bavarian Inn is the restaurant. While many who eat at the restaurant are guests, there even seem to be people who aren’t staying at the resort but want to experience the cuisine.
Formerly a German-style restaurant, the menu continues to offer a number of German favorites such as Schweinebraten, Wiener Schnitzel, and Rindsrouladen, all of which are highly recommended for their authentic German flavor! It is obvious that a good amount of research and love has been put into these German recipes.
But even those who don’t have a taste for German food will find a number of options to enjoy – from breakfast to lunch to dinner – including a selection of local cheese, soups, salads, sandwiches, and seafood (try the Cream of Crab Soup!)
If you’re staying at the resort and want breakfast in the morning, you’ll find a complete list of breakfast favorites like eggs, potatoes, omelets, pancakes, sausage, and bacon.
The Bavarian Inn sources a majority of its ingredients from local farmers, making it a lovely farm to table destination!

Drinks at the Bavarian Inn
To me, the brewery was the star of the show at the Bavarian Inn. The sheer list of options is astounding, with of course many German-inspired beer options as well as a complete catalog of wine and cocktails sure to please every taste.
The beers offered rotate based on seasonality so you can try something new each time you visit. If you’re a beer-drinker, you have to try one of their home-brewed beers for yourself! (The Appalachian Pale Ale would be our recommendation.)
In addition to the brewery, the Bavarian Inn also offers a poolside bar that is incredibly popular for its offerings and quality of service. This really enhances the experience of enjoying a day at the pool.

Stay at the Bavarian Inn Resort & Brewing Company
The Bavarian Inn Resort & Brewing Company offers an unforgettable experience that seamlessly blends history, hospitality, and local flavor.
