Root to Table is a non-profit organization operating in Virginia and West Virginia. They promote 360° food awareness, access, and inclusion through educational and entertainment events highlighting Root to Table, Slow Food, Farmer’s Direct Sale, and Markets concepts of food production and consumption. The idea brings together farmers and agricultural professionals, chefs, producers, distributors, teachers, and food enthusiasts. Strategic Priorities: Root to Table’s initiatives for the first two years are guided by a strategic plan that focuses on five key priorities for the region:
– Building a strong, vibrant, and diverse community that embraces equity.
– Offering educational and networking opportunities
– Addressing food distribution challenges
– Supporting workforce development initiatives.
– Promoting food security.

Key Areas of Focus
1. Community Building:
Foster a vocal and inclusive community that includes restaurants, chefs, farmers, food artisans, and hospitality professionals.
2. Education and Networking
Provide educational and networking opportunities through Think Tank Summits and Potluck Dinners, creating spaces for collaboration and innovation.
3. Food Distribution Solutions
Address and explore food distribution challenges while seeking collaborative solutions.
4.Food Security
Expand the Winter Soup Program to support local food banks and ensure food access for those in need.
5. Workforce Development
Support workforce initiatives aimed at improving the quality and availability of trained kitchen professionals. Through a partnership with Blue Ridge Community Technical College’s Culinary Arts Institute, we aim to:
– Provide guest speakers for educational events.
– Offer internship opportunities to students
– Facilitate networking opportunities between students and culinary professionals at Root to Table Culinary Series event
